Thrive - Stratford Circus Arts Centre

Wed. 22nd February 2017 at 5pm & 7pm

Stratford Circus Arts Centre are presenting a performance for young people aged 14+ which explores themes of grief and loss, and how we can learn to grow and thrive following traumatic experiences. The show has been specially created for a teenage audience and is an accessible piece of theatre which is highly visual, interactive and uses engaging spoken word, music and physical movement to tell the story of 3 young people thrown together by the sudden death of a friend. The piece was developed with psychologists to explore the phenomenon called post-traumatic growth. The positive and life-affirming message has proven to be a powerful experience for those young people who have gone through a bereavement, as well as being informative for those who have not.

Delve into the lives and minds of three young people as their entire world gets turned upside down when a close friend dies, and stand side by side with them as they survive and recover. Become part of a community that comes to terms with loss and gain the strength together to navigate and overcome the difficulties and pain. Hopeful and courageous, Thrive fuses vibrant contemporary text, movement, spoken word, and potent imagery.

You’re Stories

Here is Ally’s story of how she came to fund raise for The Drop in Bereavement Centre in April 2014 raising a staggering £585.58 by completing the London Marathon.

Ally’s Story
“I started running four years ago and could only just get round the 400 metre track before resorting to walking but with the help and support of my local Run England group I progressed to complete a half marathon. Sadly we lost one of our runners back in 2013 and after participating in the memorial run I heard about The Drop In Bereavement Centre and the work it does. Completing the marathon was a huge personal achievement and though I did not break any records on speed! I achieved something I would not have dreamt I would be able to do four years ago and was able to help raise funds for the Centre to maintain and continue providing this
valuable service for Newham's community”
